Played HR for 5 hours straight yesterday.
I died a lot. This is not a FPS like I am used to. Ammo is SCARCE. Sneaking is important. Once I got it into my head that I am Solid Snake, the game became manageable.
After getting the hang of dying a lot in the opening Sarif attack, I got down to business at the factory mission. Gotta save the Typhoon prototype and rescue the hostages.
Just as I was about to enter the factory building, I was trying to find the button to holster my weapon so the police officer would stop talking to me about it. I accidentally pressed Q and took out the officer. His buddy quickly killed me I was rather surprised!
In the factory, I got the Ghost achievement for not making a sound in a hostile area. That area was pretty easy though. Later, I found the hostages but I couldn't see a way to save them. As I got close, I heard them say not to enter, as it would trigger a bomb. I didn't see another way in. I thought maybe I could break a window and get in that way, but it would attract the guards for sure. I didn't feel like I had enough Ammo to take out all the enemies so I continued on looking for the main objective. After I had the typhoon and was heading back through this area, the hostage room was blocked by big metal boxes, and I couldn't hear anyone yelling. I got discovered and ended up killing all the guards. If I had done that earlier I might have been able to save everyone.
Eventually I found the Purity First leader, holding a single hostage. I talked to him, and convinced him to let the hostage go, and then I let him go in the hopes that he would open up new possibilities later in the game. While talking to him, he mentioned having a brother and discussing plans with him, but I didn't get a good idea of what that was all about. Did his brother convince him to do the attack? Was someone pretending to be his brother? Also, the leader didn't know that the hacker in his team had Augmentation, so that's interesting. He leaves knowing that he wasn't in total control of the situation.
I accepted the side quest from the drug stealing scientist in my office. I wanted to turn him down since I'm head of security and he admitted to stealing, but he said I could get a weapon upgrade out of it so I guess I'll let this slide.
Of course I agreed to help investigate the original attack when Megan's Mother asked me to. I assume I'm going to find out about it anyway during the game so I might as well make it official.
At the LIMB clinic I bought the kit, but didn't really know what to use it on. I spent my available upgrades on my torso, unlocking more batteries and the recharge ability. However, the newly unlocked batteries were uncharged and didn't seem to recharge while I was playing the game. Odd.
At the police station, I talked to the guy who was involved in the first investigation. It didn't really go anywhere.
I talked the desk Sergeant into letting me into the police station. We discussed the incident that made me leave the force. Apparently in Mexicantown there was a street gangster who had some weapon augmentation done. The police ordered my squad to kill him. But I refused to shoot because the guy was only 15 years old. The Sergeant took the shot and killed him. That explains my insult to him early in the conversation, that he is good at following orders. Anyway, eventually I tell him that killing the kid wasn't his fault, and he didn't do anything wrong. He lets me in.
Yeah, I paid like 1500 to the street hobo Leticia for info on how to enter the police station through the sewer and didn't end up needing the info. Dammit!
I entered the Police Station with my Combat Rifle, Machine Pistol, and Hand Gun. I also had a tranquilizer gun that I bought because I had some ammo for it that I found in the factory mission.
After following all the various vents and hacking the needed computers, I get info on everyone and even find the storage shed where the evidence is being kept. You really gotta explore everywhere in this game haha. However, if someone sees you in the vents it seems to set off alarms. Also, there is one room that is a restricted area and they will shoot you if they see you in there. Luckily you can pretty much duck everyone by not being right in front of them. This is a great game.
So down by where you get the Neural Hub chip from the suicide hacker, I found a vent that lead me to where there is a shotgun in a room. I didn't have enough room in my inventory for it, so I left it in the vent. When I play the game next I will goto the police station and see if I can get it again. I left it because I already had a lot of weapons that kill and generally favor more accurate weapons over more damaging weapons. I need to make sure that every shot counts.
I dropped the machine pistol in my apartment. It had better be there when I get back! I don't know how to enlarge my inventory yet. I didn't see that upgrade in my augmentation menu thing.
Before heading over to Derelict Row to investigate the persistent connection to HQ, I will do a few side quests.
Pritchard told me that a former cop buddy of mine is looking for me on the streets. In a separate message, the leader of Purity First sets up a meeting with me. First, I will talk to the police officer.
As I was talking to her, my dad interrupted me and I exited the game. I hope it saved all my progress.
